Captain Oren H. Knight.

Captain Oren H. Knight was wounded in the head when out on the skirmish line before Peterslurg, June 22, 1864, and died of Traumatic Erysipelas, in Transit Hospital, New York, July 5, 1864. His commission as Captain bears the date of his wound, and he never knew of his promotion.

Believing his wound to be slight, he sacrificed his life to the care of Lieutenant Hempstead and Private John Lawrence, who were wounded at the same time. His sleeplessness, wich he thought made it practicable for him to take the care of his friends, was the result of his injury.
Burial: Salisbury Cemetery, Salisbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Captain M. C. Horton was passing along in the rear of the line, a shot from a rebel sharpshooter hit him in the forehead, and he dropped dead without a struggle or a groan. Captain Horton was one of nature's nolilemen, kind and generous to a fault. He was loved by all who knew him, while his uncomplaining endurance of fatigue, hardships and want, and his coolness in
scenes of danger and strife marked him as one of the bravest of the brave. A half dozen of Companv D carried him to his resting place.
