For the relief of Mary Felch, widow of Reverend Cheever Felch,
deceased.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized
to issue to Mary Felch, widow of the Reverend Cheever Felch, deceased, of the county of St. Lawrence, in the State of New York, a land warrant for one hundred and sixty acres of land, in consideration of her said husband’s services as chaplain, &c., in the United States navy, during the war eighteen hundred and twelve with Great Britain.
Passed the Senate January 15, 1855.
Nathaniel Andrews, was from Maryland, his appointment in 1817, was postponed.
Andrew Hunter, appointment was postponed in 1800.
John Ireland, was asking for a pension in 1834.
Philander Chase Jr.
A petition of Philander Chase, Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the State of Illinois, praying the pre-emption right to a certain tract of land in the county of Peoria, for the purpose of erecting thereon all institution for the promotion of religion and learning.
Philander Chase, of the county of Peoria, and State of Illinois, the right of pre-emption to the unappropriated lands of the United States, situate in township ten, north of range six, east of the principal meridian in that State, for the purpose of aiding him in the establishment of a college in that township.

The petition of Addison Searle, a chaplain in the United States navy, praying compensation for the performance of extra duties, and the reimbursement of expenses thereby incurred.
Addison Searle died some time in 1851.
Cave Jones died some time in 1829.
John W. Grier resigned as chaplain of the navy on November 2, 1859.

In 1820, William Ryland was elected as the Senates Chaplain, was chaplain till 1830, then took Cave Jones place as he had died.

Timothy J. Harrison to be chaplain in the Navy from 2d October, 1829, vice Edward McLaughlin, dismissed.
Walter Colton.
1850.
The petition of Walter Colton, chaplain in the United States navy, praying compensation for his services as Acting Governor of a portion of the territory of California in the late war with Mexico.
Walter Colton died some time in 1861.

To make compensation to Walter Colton.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he hereby is, directed to pay to Walter Colton, the sum of seven thousand eight hundred and sixty-five dollars thirty-three cents, (being the excess in the sum deposited by him in the Treasury of the United States over the nett amount for which his agent purchased the prize ship Admittance and cargo;) said sum to be in full compensation for his services and expenses as chief civil magistrate and judge in California.

ReplyDeleteCharles S. Stewart, Commission Nov. 1, 1828, born New Jersey, appointed from New York, Residence New York. His was station to the Frigate Guerriere. The Delaware 74., and the Frigate United States and on a sloop which name I can't read. Other times is was either on leave or waiting orders. He was also station at the Navy yard at New York. He died on December 14, 1870.
