Petition dated Newburyport, Feb. 3, 1783, signed by William Coombs, Master, in behalf of the Marine Society of Newburyport, stating that Benjamin Conner, a member of the societj' and an inhabitant of Newl)uryport, sailed from Boston in command of the row galley [name not given] and was taken by the enemy and carried to New York where he was detained a prisoner " in the Prevost," and as the enemy had refused to exchange him, re- questing that measures be taken for his release; ordered in Council Feb. 13, 1783, that the secretary direct Maj.
