Seaman of Massachusetts.

Here is a short list of some interesting men from Massachusetts not only did they hold the rank of seamen but up to three other ranks, these men must of had a very interesting life.

Note. As Mr. Hatch held so many ranks (3), there could be some errors in the service records, but I believe them to be all his.

Anthony Thomas's regt. ; service, 4 days, subsequent to the alarm of April 19, 1775 ; part of said ser- vice with guards at North river who relieved Capt. Lothrop; also, Capt. Thomas Turner's CO. of Minute-men, Col. John Baley's (Bailey's) regt.; pay abstract for mileage, etc., dated Jan. 10, 1776; mileage (63 miles) allowed said Hatch; re- ported encamped with Brig. Gen. Thomas's brigade.

Hatch, Prince. Pay roll of a company raised in Falmouth, Barnstable Co., by Joseph Dimuck, Esq., to guard the shore; enlisted June 10 [1783] ; discharged Nov. 15 [1783] ; service, 5 mos. 5 days ; warrant for pay drawn in favor of Select- men of Falmouth.
Pension Record.

Prince Hatch, of the state of Massachusetts, county of Barnstable, Rank Private, Corporal and Carpenter. He service was of the Continental Line, State Navy and Militia. His allowance was $145.29, the sums received was $435.87, wss placed on the pension rolls on October 25, 1833, commencement of pension was on March 4, 1831, Age 83.

Jerathmiel Doty.

Doty, Jerathmeel. Receipt dated Rochester, May 25, 1781, for bounties paid said Doty and others by several classes of the town of Rochester to serve in the Continental Army for the term of 3 years, agreeable to resolve of Dec 2, 1780.

Service record.

Jerathmiel Doty, State of Massachusetts, county of Berkshire, Rank Marine, service Revolutionary Navy, Allowance $33.33, Sums not stated, placed on pension rolls July 1, 1789, commencement of pension March 17, 1886, Act June 7, 1785. He again was placed on the Rolls at a allowance of $56.03, on April 24, 1816. Increased to this rate by act April 24, 1816. Transferred to Rutland Co., Vermont from Mar. 4, 1819.

John Dobel.

Doble, John. Seaman; list of prisoners to be received in exchange for British prisoners sent to Halifax in the cartel " Swift," as returned by Robert Pierpont, Commissary, dated Oct. 9, 1777; said Dobel to be exchanged for Stephen Pattie, Seaman.

Pension.

John Dobel, of the state of Massachusetts, of the county of Berkshire, Rank Private & Seaman, Service Continental Line & U. S. Navy, allowance $88., the sums received $254., was placed on the rolls October 31, 1833, commencement of pension was March 4, 1831, Age 76.

Alexander Hunter.

Hunter, Alexander. Seaman, ship " Protector," commanded by Capt. John Foster "Williams ; engaged Feb. 16, 1780 ; discharged Aug. 17, 1780 ; service, 6 mos. 1 day ; also, same vessel and commander ; engaged Sept. 27, 1780 ; service, 7 mos. 8 days ; reported captured May 6, 1781 ; also, same vessel ; wages allowed said Hunter from May 5, 1781, to date of return from captivity, Aug. 14, 1782, 15 mos. 9 days.

Pension.

Alexander Hunter, state of Massachusetts, county of Bristol, Rank Mariner, Service United States Navy, Allowance $96., Sums received $185.33, was placed on the pension rolls on May 31, 1819, commencement of pension was March 31, 1818, Age 71. Pension suspended of the act of May 1, 1820.

Abigail (Abiel) Mitchell's (Bristol Co.) regt. ; enlisted Aug. 5, 1780; discharged Oct. 31, 1780; service, 2 mos. 28 days; regiment raised to reinforce Continental Army for 3 months.

Jackson, Caleb, Ipswich. Private, Capt. Abram How's co., which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, from West Parish in Ipswich ; service, 2 days ; also, Capt. John Baker's co., Col. Moses Little's (17th) regt. ; muster roll dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted May 11, 1775; service, 2 mos. 26 days; also, company return [probably Oct., 1775] ; age, 21 yrs. ; reported enlisted May 2, 1775; also, order for bounty coat or its equivalent in money dated Dec. 11, 1775.

Jackson, Caleb, Ipswich. Corporal, Capt. David Low's co. of volunteers, 3d Essex Co. regt. ; enlisted Sept. 30, 1777 ; marched Oct. 2, 1777 ; discharged Nov. 7, 1777 ; service, 40 days, in a regiment commanded by Maj. Charles Smith, under Gen. Gates in Northern department, and in guarding Gen. Burgoyne's army to Prospect Hill; residence, Ipswich; company discharged at Cambridge.

Jackson, Caleb. Sergeant, Capt. Oliver Titcomb's co., Col. Jacob Gerrish's regt. of guards; service from Feb. 3, 1778, to April 2, 1778, 2 mos. 2 days, at Cambridge; regiment raised to guard Lieut. Gen. Burgoyne's army after his surrender. Roll dated Winter Hill.

Caleb Jackson, state of Massachusetts, county of Essex, Rank Private, Corporal ,Sergeant and Seaman, Service Massachusetts Militia & State Navy, Allowance $89.81, Sums received $269.43, Placed on the pension rolls on October 25, 1833, Commencement of pension was March 4, 1831, Age 80.
