William enlisted August 12, 1861 as a Pvt in the 7th Wisconsin Infantry Company E. He was a resident of Crystal Lake, Waupaca County Wisconsin upon enlistment. William was discharged December 19, 1861 (disability).

He was also in the 52nd., Wisconsin Infantry, company B., Residence at the time was Storgeon Bay, Enlisted March 20, 1865, Mustered out July 28, 1865.Private.,

He married Clara May Durfee(born 1846 in Wis.) On November 17 1863 in Friendship, Adams County Wisconsin.
