Civil War Pensioners From Around The World.

Over the years I had people write to me and tell me they can’t find any more information on their ancestor, and as they put it, “it’s like they fell off the face of the earth.” Well I usually tell them they may have changed their name for one reason or other, or they may have died, and are in some unknown cemetery because the family never recorded it.

I never gave it much thought, if you can’t find him, you just can’t find him. But I know there is some record some where on them, you just have to keep hunting. Then the other day I was working on a new pension list called; (A Few More Pensioners From The Civil War. ) http://civilwarthosesurnames.blogspot.com/2011/04/few-more-pensioners-from-civil-war.html  I found some records that showed there were thousands of civil was vets all over the world. Right after the war not only did the civil war vet cross across the United States but other countries as will.

This page will be different then the one stated above, this information will be a list of the countries were you can find these vets. Now some of these countries will only have 1-8 vets, while others will have hundreds. Just remember the next you want to say; “He fall off the face of the earth.” remember this page it might be a help to you. I will give one example.

Note. If you thank that maybe your ancestor is in one of these countries, write me and I will take a look.

A Few More Pensioners From The Civil War.

After the war thousands of soldiers and sailors started to move across the United States. Some would go back home while others would put down their roots in some other state and some of these states were the states they were just fighting against. Thousands of these men were wounded and would receive a pension.

The information on this page was taken from the pension rolls of 1883, and other sources. Because some of these records were hard to read there may be some miss spellings.

Note. The place of residence, is their Post Office address, and doesn’t mean they lived in that town, they could have lived many miles outside of town, it’s just their P. O. address.
