Captain William H. Guy, born in Fairfield county, Ohio, March 25, 1836; emigrated to Fayette county Illinois, in 1839, with parents; was a farmer until the Civil War broke out; enlisted and served three months under the call for 75,000; served in the 8th., Illinois infantry under Richard J. Oglesby; enlisted in 14th., Illinois Cavalry and mustered as First Lieutenant company "F" January 7, 1863; was promoted Captain July 18, 1865; and was mustered out with regiment. Captain Guy was captured at Sunshine Church, Georgia, July 31, 1864; was exchanged.
