GEORGE BROWN,
Son of Abner and Emeline Brown, was born in Madison N. Il.,  June 7th, 1837 ; enlisted May 3d, 1861, and was mustered into the U. S. Service July 16th, 1861, as private in Company I,  13th Regiment Mass. Volunteers, to serve three years He Was wounded in the skirmish at Harper’s Ferry, September 2d, 1861.

He was under fire at Cedar Mountain Va., August 9th, and Rappahannoek Station on the 22d, and in the battles of Thoroughfare Gap, August 28th, second Bull Run on the 29th and 30th, Chantilly September 1st, Antietam, Md, September 17th, Fredericksburg Va., December 13th, 1862; Deep Run April 30th, 1863; Chancellorsville May 3d, 4th and 15th; Gettysburg Pa., July 1st, 2d and 3d; Mine Run November 27th, 1863.

He re-enlisted January 2d, and was mustered in January 4th,1864, to serve three years. He was in the battles of the Wilderness Va., May 5th, 6th and 7th,1864. Laurel Hill and North side of Spotsylvzrnia from the 8th to the 14th of May; near Spotsylvania Court House, East side, from the 14th to the 20th. North Anna River, near Jericho Ford,
May 23d ; Bethesda Church, May 30th, 31st and June 1st; Coal Harbor, June 3d ; in front of Petersburg, June 17th ; and on the 18th he was again wounded. He was transferred to Company  B, 39th Regiment July 16th, 1864, and was discharged at  Alexandria, Va., for disability, June 13th,1865.

101st Ohio Infantry, Co. A

Captain Lyman Parcher, Enrolled and mustered as First Lieutenant, July 24, 1862, at Columbus. Promoted to Captain, November 15, 1862. Resigned at Murfreesboro', Tenn., February 26, 1863, on account of wounds received in Battle of Pea Ridge, Mo., March 7, 1862.

 Afterwards raised a Company in the 179th Ohio; was commissioned Captain, and served to the end of the war.
Died at Marysville, Mo., August 28, 1893.

CAPTAIN LYMAN PARCHER,

farmer, section ‘19. This popular citizen is a native of Ohio, and was born in Crawford County, January 18, 1835. His father, Samuel, was among the early settlers of Northeastern Ohio. Lyman was educated and reared in the Buckeye State. In 1856, he came to Iowa, remained a short time, returned to Ohio, and came to Iowa again in 1857. At the breaking out of the rebellion, he was among the first to tender his services to the Union cause, enlisting, in 1861, in the Fourth Iowa Infantry, as second lieutenant. of Company H.

He was severely wounded at the battle of Pea Ridge, and, after recuperating in the hospital, secured a recruiting officer’s commission, and organized Company E, of the One Hundred and First Ohio, and, as captain of this company, yet undrilled, participated at the engagements of Knob’s Gap, Stone River, and other battles.

In 1863, he was obliged to leave the service, on account of. his wound, and, after convalescing, in 1864, he recruited Company B, of the One Hundred and Seventy-ninth Ohio, and with them participated at the last battle of Nashville. He served until the close of the war, when he was honorably discharged. In 1866, in com with others, Captain Parcher engaged in the manufacturing of wagon material at Bucyrus, Ohio. In this industry he continued until 1868, when he sold out.

In January, 1869, he was appointed mail agent on the Pittsburgh 8: Fort Wayne Railroad, between Crestline and Chicago, which position he held until the spring of 1871, when he resigned,and came to Iowa, locating in Adams County. There he resided until the spring of 1872, when he took up his abode where he now resides His estate consists of ninety acres, adjoining the corporate limits of Maryville, on which is situated a residence, indicating comfort and prosperity.

He is also owner of valuable town property, besides land in Adams County, Iowa. The captain manifests a live interest in the progress of Nodaway County, and takes an active part in all enterprises that will further its developments, In 1878, he was elected to the office of justice of the peace. He is numbered among Nodaway's most substantial men. In 1867, Miss Mary F. Tunison, a native of Springfield, Illinois, became his wife. They have five children by this union: Fred, Josephine, Charles L., Edmond K. and Jessie M. He is a Master Mason-

New Comedy Organization Gets Famous Cowboy Photo- player—Eight Years With Selig.

TOMMIX, cowboy, rough rider, motion picture actor, scenario writer and director, has signed with the William Fox forces and will immediately begin work on a series of western comedies for the Fox film comedy program. The engagement of Mr. Mix for Fox film comedies marks the first change America's most famous cowboy has made in his picture career. For eight years he was leading man with Selig and his followers are numbered by the hundreds of thousands in all parts of the world. For staging the Mix comedies Mr. Fox has leased a large tract of land on the Winna Brown ranch, near Los Angeles, erected a complete western city from dance hall to under taking establishment and arranged for the maintenance of a large stock farm to furnish horses and cattle for the films.  Opposite

Mr. Mix, when he begins work for Fox film comedies, will be Victoria Forde. who has played his female leads ever since he has been in pictures.

TomMix is one of the most picturesque figures on the Pacific Coast. He is typically a westerner and unmistakably a cowboy, always wearing a sombrero, which fits exactly with his rugged virile eatures. He is a familiar character in and about Los Angeles.

The Colored Cooks

 There is another class that deserves honorable mention. The colored cooks in the army were an important adjunct. Many an officer was enabled to devote his hours off duty to studying "Hardee's Tactics," and was also enabled to keep his uniform in presentable condition, by the aid of a cook, and many a hot, tired and hungry soldier, returning to camp from drill, near noon, was regaled by the rich odors arising from the steaming camp kettle, which his cook, furnished him by a doting father, had filled with tempting viands. And many a sick or wounded Confederate has been tenderly waited upon and cared for by the negro who played with him in boyhood and now tried to do for "young massa" what "ole missus" would have done, but was too far away to do.

Ezra W. McOmber.

McOmber, George A. Resides at Gage, Oklahoma. Was County Sheriff of O’Brien County in 1871, and is said to have been a soldier in the Civil War, serving in the Union Army. A  brother of Ezra W. McOmber next below.

McOmber, Ezra W. Resides at Primghar, Iowa; born February 12, 1839, at Providence, near Saratoga, New York; father, Joseph McOmber (born in 1805 in Saratoga County, New York), mother, Betsey Austin (born in 1806 in Saratoga County). Married Anna Maria Gould December 15, 1864; children: Margaret, Samuel, Adrian.

Enlisted September 1,1862, at Saratoga, New York, in Company A, Seventy-seventh New York Infantry, Third Brigade, Second Division, Sixth Army Corps; wounded at Antietam, September 17,1862; served in battles of Culpepper Court House, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Second Battle of Bull Run; wounded at Gettysburg, July 2, 1863; was discharged from McDougal Hospital, New York, on account of his wounds, December 14, 1863. Settled in this county March 19, 1869, homesteading land on section 12, Waterman Township; has  resided in county continuously since. Died January 25, 1909, and was buried at Primghar; was serving as commander of  S. F. Jordan Post, No. 417, G. A. R., at Primghar, when he  died.

A, September 18, 1862; wounded in action, July 2, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pa.; discharged for wounds, December 11,1863, at McDougal General Hospital, Fort Schuyler, New York Harbor; also borne as McComber.

Montzheimer, Julius. Resides at Gallup, New Mexico; born March 17, 1834, at Minden, Prussia, Germany; father, Frederick (born in 1794, at Koenigsberg, Prussia), mother, Emelie  Renschuch (born in 1800 at Berlin). Married Isabel Hillock November 6, 1860; children: Marie, Frederick, Otto H., Arthur and James L. Enlisted August 16, 1861, as private secretary to General Sigel; mustered in September 3, 1861, at St. Louis, Missouri, in Company K, Seventeenth Missouri Volunteer Infantry; commissioned Second Lieutenant December 30, 1861, to date from September 3, 1861; promoted  to First Lieutenant of Company E, Seventeenth Missouri Infantry, November 1, 1862; acted as secretary to General Sigel, who then commanded a brigade, and in December, 1861, was appointed Aid-de-Camp on staff of General Sigel.

 May, 1862, was assigned to staff of General Osterhaus; contracted malarial fever in Helena, Arkansas; served in battles of Bentonville, Missouri, March 2, 1862, Pea Ridge and  numerous skirmishes; injured by fall with horse on November 19, 1861, near Rolla, Missouri; received flesh wound in right thigh from an ambush June 29, 1862, on march from Jacksonport to Helena, Arkansas; skirmish at Salem, Missouri, May, 1862, while on march to escort General Sigel to Batesville, Arkansas; in command of 28 men; resigned on account of disability and discharged December 4, 1862.

Enlisted January 27,1864, at Salem, Ind., Company B, Sixteenth Indiana Infantry, First Division, Thirteenth Corps; transferred to Thirteenth Indiana Cavalry June 29, 1865; service at Richmond, Ky.,  Mansfield, La.; Nelson Hill, Ark.; shot through right leg at Richmond; shot through left thigh at Donaldsonville, La.;
discharged November 24, 1865, at Vicksburg, Miss. Settled in O’Brien County about 1882, at Primghar. Member G. A. R. Post No. 311, Ford City, Mo.; K. of P., and I. O. O. F. at Darlington, Mo.

Bunce, Joseph D. Born March 17, 1840, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; father, Platt Bunce (born February 2, 1809), mother, Marietta Petit Bunce (born January 13, 1815). First married to Sarah F. Barrett; after her death, to Mary E. Gibson; children: Kenny, Cora, Bradiste, by first wife; a daughter, Vera A., was born under marriage to second wife.

 Enlisted June 11, 1861, at Pickering, N. Y., in Company B, Thirty-fifth New York Volunteer Infantry; appointed Corporal November 1, 1861; Sergeant, September 18, 1862; mustered out June 5, 1863, and re-enlisted June 30, 1863, in Company A, Twentieth New York Cavalry; discharged July  31, 1865, near Manchester, Va. Resided at Sheldon until his death, February 3, 1904. Member A. F. & A. M. His first wife and three children are buried at Sheldon, Iowa.
