The Pursuit & Capture Of Jefferson Davis, by the First Ohio Cavalry.

Here is a list and piectures of some of the men of the First Ohio Cavalry who were in the pursut and capture of Jefferson Davis. These men were under the command of Joseph A. O. Yeoman, There are 21, names listed but there were more but the author could not remember them all. There is almost a full chapter on this event in a book by W. L. Curry, ( William Leontes Curry) called; Four years in the saddle-The history of the First Regiment Ohio volunteer Cavalry.  This book can be found and read on the internet.

Joseph A. O. Yeoman, Captain, Age 18, Enlisted August 6, 1861, 3 years, mustered as a private; Promoted to 2nd., Lieutenant Co. H., January 29, 1864; To captain from First Lieutenant of Co. H., March 1865.  Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

George P. Barnes, Sen. Sergeant, Company A., Age 30, Enlisted August 6, 1861, 3 Years.  Mustered as a Corporal; appointed Sergeant February 22, 1863; First Sergeant September 18, 1864; Promoted 2nd., Lieutenant March 18, 1865.  Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

John H. McElwaine Q. M. Sergeant, Company A., Age 20, Enlisted February 12, 1864, 3 years.  Mustered as private; appointed May 15, 1865;mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

Samuel Robertson Corporal, Company A., Age 18, Enlisted March 30, 1864, 3 Years.  Appointed March 1, 864; Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

Ripley L. Waln or walm. Corporal, Company A., Age 20, Enlisted February 7, 1864, 3 years; appointed June 14, 1865; mustered out with regiment September September 13, 1865.

Henry T. Ressler or Resler Private, Company A., Age 18, Enlisted February 13, 1864; appointed June 14, 1865; mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

Samuel J. Rice Private, Company A., Age 19, Enlisted February 16, 1864, 3 years.  Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

Spencer C. Phares Private, Company A., Age 22, Enlisted August 22, 1861.  Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

George W. Blair Private, Company A., Age 18, Enlisted February 7, 1864.  Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

John Camm Sergeant, Company A., Not found.

William Hampden Private, Company C., Age 18, Enlisted October 2, 1862, 3 years.  Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

John W. Newlove Sergeant, Company D., Age 20, Enlisted August 26, 1861, 3 years; mustered as private; appointed Sergeant January 31, 1863; Com. Sergeant March 1, 1864.  Participated in the capture of Jefferson Davis; mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

William Power or William M. Powers Private, Company D., Age 22, Enlisted February 27, 1865, 1 year.  Mustered out by order of the war departmen, September 13, 1865, at New York City, New York

Bushrod W. Click Private, Company F., Age 19, Enlisted February 10, 1864.  Mustered out with regiment September 13, 1865.

Thomas R. Kennard Private, Company I., Age 24, Enlisted SEPTEMBER 2, 1861, 3 YEARS.  Wounded in action-?, mustered out with regiment September 13, 11865.

John F. Young Private, Company K., Age 18, Enlisted September 28, 1861, 3 years; wounded September 20, 1863 in battle of Chickamauga Ga., appointed November 1, 1864; mustered out with company September 13, 1865.  Veteran.

Robert W. Peters Private, Company E., Age 18, Enlisted February 29, 1864, 3 years.  Mustered out with company September 13, 1865.

John W. Malone Private, Company H., Age 19, Enlisted December 16, 1864, 1 year.  Mustered out with company September 13, 1865.

William Schwartz Corporal, Company H., Age 18, Enlisted August 14, 1861, 3 years; appointed October 6, 1864.  Mustered out with company September 13, 1865.
