Names Off The Pension Laws Bills-1808 & 1819.

Last week as I was doing the pages on ( The Pension Laws of The United States ) I ran across a couple lists on Pensioners, I believe these names will be all new? Some of the names have some interesting information, I know those of you who are looking for a ancestor, and find one on this list will find this information helpful.

Note. This information come off the Pension roll Bills of 1808, 1819, which are housed at the Library of Congress.

Important Note. Although I took great care in putting this added information to these names some errors will happen, so do your research.

Pension Bill of 1808.

CHAP. LVIII.—An act concerning invalid pensioners.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of War be, and he is hereby directed to place the following named persons, whose claims have been transmitted to Congress, pursuant to a law passed the tenth of April, one thousand eight hundred and six, on the pension list of invalid pensioners of the United States, according to the rates, and to commence at the times herein mentioned, that is to say:

1. Thomas Lamar Davis, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the twenty-ninth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

2. Albert Chapman, at the rate of ten dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

3. Ambrose Homan, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the fifteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and six.

4. Richard Scott, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, commence on the fifth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

5. Francis Blood, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the sixteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and six.

6. Jonas Green, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the eighth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

7. William Green, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of February, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

8. Seth Weed, at the rate of six dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

9. Samuel Lathrop, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-second day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

10. Peter Smith, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the sixteenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and six.
Added Info. Peter Smith, was from Stamford county of Fairfield, of the state of Connecticut. He was a private of the Connecticut Line, and was wounded as a soldier of the Revolutionary war. He was placed on the pension rolls, the commencement of his pension was July 16, 1806, because of the changes of the pension laws he is on the rolls three times. The last time was in 1818, and had received a total of $1,529.03, he was 79, years at that time.

11. William Johnston, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month,
commence on the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

12.James Houston, at the rate of fifteen dollars per month, to commence on the thirteenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

13. Jedediah Hyde, at the rate of fifteen dollars per month, to commence on the third day of August, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

14. Samuel Nesbit, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the eighteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

15. Shepherd Packard, at the rate of three dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of February, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

16. Richard Kisby, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-fourth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

17. Jonathan Wilkins, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the twenty-sixth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

18. Waterman Baldwin, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-fifth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. He was from New York, county of Tioga. He was a soldier in the Continental Army, and was held in Canada as a prisoner of war.

19. John Clark, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the fifteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

20. John Venus, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the eleventh day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

21. John Holcombe, at the rate of fifteen dollars per month, to commence on the first day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. John Holcombe, was from Virginia, became a First Lieutenant of the 4th, Virginia, February 19, 1776, became Captain on January 1, 1777 to March 25, 1779, name was also spelled Holcomb.

1834, A petition of the heirs at law of John Holcombe, deceased, praying to be paid the commutation of half pay to which they conceive the said John Holcombe was entitled as a colonel in the revolutionary army.

1836, A petition of a part of the heirs of John Holcombe, deceased, a captain in the army of the revolution in the Virginia continental line, praying that the commutation of half pay, to which the said John Holcombe was entitled, may be paid to them.

22. Richard Steads, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the ninth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

23. Alexander Jones, at the rate of three dollars thirty-three and one third cents per month, to commence on the nineteenth day of June, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four.

24. Benjamin Saddler, at the rate of three dollars per month, to commence on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and three.
Added info. 1806, A petition of Benjamin Saddler, of the State of Virginia, which was received and read, praying, relief in consideration of wounds received while a soldier in the army of the United States, and of bodily sufferings and hardships sustained while a prisoner of the enemy, during the Revolutionary war with Great Britain.

25. Benjamin Jenkins, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the sixteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

26. William Scott, at the rate of twenty-five dollars per month, to commence on the twelfth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. It looks like there were three William Scott’s, one was a Ensign the other a Captain, an other was a Colonel, with a wife by the name of Claris, of Mississippi, One had a wife by the name of Susannah, of New York, one had heirs by the name of William Scott, Gabriel Scott, Thomas Scott and Elizabeth Bowles of Mississippi.

27. James Bruff, at the rate of twenty dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. He was from Maryland, was nominated for Captain in 1794, In 1802, was Captain of the First regiment of artillery A. & E., In 1804, became a Major, In 1807, on June 30, he resigned.

28. Nathan Taylor, at the rate of ten dollars per month, to commence the nineteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

29. Aaron Stevens, at the rate of ten dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

30. Simon Morgan, at the rate of twenty dollars per month, to commence on the second day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. Was from Virginia, was a Major in 1798.

31. Jonathan Patch, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the eleventh day of July, one thousand eight hundred and six.
Added info. Was from the State of Maine.

32. Ebenezer Rowe, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the sixteenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

33. Benjamin Kendrick, at the rate of three dollars thirty-three and one third cents per month, to commence on the first day of January, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-six.
Added info. Was a soldier of the Revolutionary war had been wounded.

34. Nicholas Hoff, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-second day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

35. Samuel Shaw, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the thirteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

36. Nicholas Lott, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the twenty-third day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

37. Humphrey Becket, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the eighth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

38. Silas Parrot, at the rate of six dollars per month, to commence on the tenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. Was from New Jersey, was a Lieutenant.

39. Jared Hinkley, junior, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the nineteenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

40. Francis Davidson, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the sixteenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

41. Andrew Waggoner, at the rate of twenty dollars per month, to commence on the second day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

42. George Richardson, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the tenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

43. William Wallace, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the thirtieth of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

44. Joseph Bird, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-ninth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

45. John St. John, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-ninth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. There were at lest two John St. John, and as I didn’t know which this info went to so I put both here.

1821, A petition of Lois St. John, widow of John St. John, a captain in the militia of the state of New York, who died of sickness contracted whilst in the actual service of the United States in the late war with Great Britain, praying for the pension provided by law for the widows of officers dying in service.

1829, A petition of Hannah St. John, widow of John St. John, deceased, late an invalid pensioner of the United States, praying that her late husband's pension may be continued to her

46. Abner Snow, at the rate of three dollars and seventy-five cents per month, to commence on the twenty-seventh day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. 1803, A petition of Abner Snow, of Leicester, in the county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, a soldier in a detachment of militia in the actual service of the United States, during the Revolutionary war with Great Britain, praying to be indemnified by the public for the expenses which he incurred in the cure of his left leg, which was bruised by accident, whilst the petitioner, in the capacity aforesaid, was marching over rough uneven ground, in pursuit of the enemies of his country; and also that such other allowance may be made to him

47. Aaron Crane, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the third day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

48. James Hawkley, at the rate of five dollars per month,, to commence on the sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

49. Elijah Morse, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

50. John Van Anglen, at the rate of fifteen dollars per month, to commence on the third day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

51. James Boden, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the twenty-eighth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

52. Isaac Burnharn, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and three.

53. Benjamin Hillman, at the rate of ten dollars per month, to commence on the fourteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. 1839, A petition of Deborah Bowen, of Crawford county, in the State of Pennsylvania, praying Congress to grant her one hundred and sixty acres of land, in exchange for steril land, which was given her son Benjamin Hillman, a soldier in the late war, as military bounty land. Note. This may have been the same Hillman?

54. Silas Pierce, at the rate of ten dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

55. Randel M’Allistor, at the rate of five dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

56. John Durnal, at the rate of three dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

57. Jabez Church, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the twenty-second day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

58. Thomas Machin, at the rate of ten dollars per month, to commence on the nineteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

ARREARS OF PENSION.
COMMUNICATED TO TEE HOUSE Or REPRESENTATIVES, DECEMBER 31, 1816.
Mr. Chappell, from the Committee on Pensions and Revolutionary Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Susannah Machin, reported:

That the petitioner states that, in the year 1808, her late husband, Captain. Thomas Machin, applied to Congress for a pension; that the Secretary of War reported on his case, and recommended him to be placed on the pension roll of the United States at the rate of twenty dollars per month; but that the physician who certified his disability committed a mistake, purely unintentional, by reason of which he was placed on the roll at only ten dollars, instead of twenty dollars per month; that, in the year 1814, he applied again, and was placed On. the pension roll at twenty dollars per month, but that, from some reason unknown to her, the increase of pension did not relate back to the date of the first pension. She states that her husband is since dead; that she is old and nearly destitute. She asks Congress to allow her the difference between the two sums from 1808 till 1814, namely, ten dollars per month.

On application to the proper Department, it has been found that the certificates and have been destroyed, so that the committee cannot say whether there should have been a greater allowance made than there was; but they presume that justice was done him, and that he received the full amount to which he was entitled. The certificates, &c. in the second case establish a total disability, and he was accordingly placed on the roll as a full pensioner.

The rule prescribed, and the one which it is believed has been uniformly pursued, is, to allow the pension to commence from the time at which the evidence is closed, by which the right is established, and not before. In this case, the committee see no reason to deviate from it. They therefore recommend the adoption of the following resolution.
Resolved, That the prayer of the petitioner ought to be rejected.

59. David Richey, at the rate of two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the second day of April. one thousand eight hundred and eight.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the pensions of the following persons already placed on the pension list of the United States, whose claims for an increase of pension have been transmitted to Congress, pursuant to the act aforesaid, be increased to the sums herein respectively annexed to their names, the said, increase to commence at the times herein mentioned, that is to say:

60. James Campbell, four dollars per month, to commence on the twenty fifth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

61. John Beardsley, Jun. five dollars per month, to commence on the thirteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

62. Thomas Bristol, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty- second day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

63. Josiah Smith, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty_ ninth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

64. Joseph Wace, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty- ninth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

65. Daniel Buck, five dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

66. Lemuel King, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty_ third day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

67. William Wallace, five dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

68. Joseph Saunders, five dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of February, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

69. William Hastings, five dollars per month, to commence on the eleventh day of February, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. 1805, A petition of William Hastings, of the country of Hillsborough, in the State of New Hampshire, was presented to the House and read, praying an augmentation of the pension heretofore granted him by law, in consideration of a wound received whilst a soldier in a regiment of militia commanded by Colonel Peabody, in the actual service of the United States, during the Revolutionary war with Great Britain, which hath rendered him incapable of obtaining a livelihood by labor.

1808, a petition of William Hastings, a pensioner of the United States, praying that the expense incurred by the petitioner in the amputation of one of his legs, in consequence of a wound received whilst a private in the Continental army, during the Revolutionary war with Great Britain, may be refunded to him.

70. Joshua Lovejoy, five dollars per month, to commence on the fifth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. 1796, Was from New Hampshire, Sergeant, one-half pay pension.

1809, A petition of Joshua Lovejoy, of Sandborton, in the State of New Hampshire, praying, for the reasons therein set forth, that he may be placed on the list of pensioners as a lieutenant in Colonel Enoch Poor's regiment, in the New Hampshire line of the Revolutionary army, and receive the allowance granted by law to officers of that grade, who have been wounded or disabled in the service of their country.

71. Isaac Higgins, three dollars thirty-three and one third cents per month, to commence on the twenty-ninth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. Hannah Higgins, of New York, widow of Isaac Higgins, asking for a pension.

72. Reuben Dow, fifteen dollars per month, to commence on the nineteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

73. Joseph Harrup, five dollars per month, to commence on the fifteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

74. David Ranney, five dollars per month, to commence on the fifth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

75. John Whitehorn, five dollars per month, to commence on the thirtieth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

76. Richard Sherman, five dollars per month, to commence on the eighth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

77. Noah Sinclair, three dollars and seventy-five cents per month, to commence on the eighth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

78. Nathaniel Church, five dollars per month, to commence on the eighth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. 1818, A petition of Nathaniel Church, a soldier in the revolutionary army, stating, that he was placed on the pension list of the United States, in the year 1808; and praying to be allowed the arrearages of pension up to the said year 1808.

79. Gersham Clarke, five dollars per month, to commence on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

80. John M’Kinstrey, twelve dollars per month, to commence on the seventh day of December, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

81. Ebenezer Perkins, five dollars per month, to commence on the fifteenth of September, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

82. Henry Ten Eyck, fifteen dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-first day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

83. Thomas Simpson, thirteen dollars thirty-three and one third cents per month, to commence on the twenty-fourth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and six.

84. John Rybecker, four dollars per month, to commence on the eighteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

85. Lemuel Dean, five dollars per month, to commence on the eighth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

86. Thomas Johnson, five dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

87. Levi Chubbuck, three dollars and seventy-five cents per month, to commence on the twentieth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seven.
Added info. Was from New Hampshire, fifer, under the command of Colonel Prescott’s, wounded in left knee by a musket ball, was wounded at Frog’s point October 14, 1776, home was Bartlett, New Hampshire, was of the Militia, received one-fourth pension.

88. George Walter, two dollars and fifty cents .per month, to commence on the twenty-fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

89. Samuel Rossetter, five dollars per month, to commence on the thirtieth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

90. Jeremiah Prichard, thirteen dollars thirty-three and one third cents per month, to commence on the sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

91. Abner Gage, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. 1794, A petition of Abner Gage, of the county of Cheshire, in the State of New Hampshire, late a private in the regiment commanded by Colonel John Stark, praying to be placed on the list of pensioners, in consideration of a wound which he received at the battle of Bunker's Hill, during the late war, which has rendered the petitioner incapable of obtaining a livelihood by labor.

92. John Devoe, five dollars per month, to commence on the thirtieth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. 1804, A petition of John Devoe, of the county of Montgomery, in the State of New York, was presented to the House and read, praying to be placed on the list of pensioners, in consideration of wounds received whilst a soldier in a regiment of New Jersey militia,in the actual service of the United States, during the Revolutionary war with Great Britain, which have rendered him incapable of obtaining a livelihood by labor

93. Nathaniel Bradley, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty- sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

94. Thaddeus Seely, two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the ninth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

95. John Herron, two dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the twenty-sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

96. Peter Nevius, four dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

97. John Hampton, six dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

98. Roswell Woodworth, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-third day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

MILITARY SERVICE PERFORMED IN 1759.
COMMUNICATED To THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, ON THE 29TH OF DECEMBER, 1817.
Mr. Williams, of North Carolina, from the Committee of Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Roswell Woodworth, of the town of Lebanon, in the State of New York, reported:

The petitioner states that Nathaniel Woodworth served as a drummer in in the Campaign of 1759, in the old French war, under the command of Major and heir of the said Nathaniel Woodworth. Lie therefore pray Congress land to which he alleges his father was entitled for the aforesaid service; or otherwise, as may appear just and reasonable, will be substituted. The committee are of opinion it will be found, upon examination, that all those who rendered service in the war of 1759, and were, in consequence thereof, entitled to land, obtained it upon due application to the proper authority. If the father of the present petitioner failed to obtain his, the fault must have been his own; but, admitting that he used a reasonable diligence, and failed to obtain the reward due to his services from causes he could not obviate, still the committee are unacquainted with any principle of law or equity which would sustain the present application. The existing Government of the United States could never recognise a principle which would require of them to make good every violation of contract by the British Government antecedent to the adoption of the present constitution. The committee would therefore recommend to the House the following resolution: Resolved, That the prayer of the petitioner ought not to be granted.

99. David Hulbell, five dollars per month, to commence on the nineteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

100. John M’Coy, five dollars per month, to commence on the fifteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

101. Caleb hunt, five dollars per month, to commence on the fifth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

102. Henry Gates, five dollars per month, to commence on the ninth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

103. David Hall, five dollars per month, to commence on the twelfth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

104. Jonah Cook, five dollars per month, to commence on the fourth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eight.
Added info. Jonan Cook, also spelled Cooke, was a private in the 5th., Connecticut regiment under Colonel Isaac Sherman, Enlisted either July 5, or January 5, 1781, for six months. His home was Watertown Conn., Then in either October or August of 1781, at Peekskill New York, he fall on a cedar stump which broke the rim of his belly which produced a dangerous rupture, he would received a $3.33 and a third pension.

105. William Nelson, five dollars per month, to commence on the twenty- second day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eight.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That the Secretary at War be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to place on the pension list of the United States, all persons who now remain on the pension list of any of the states, and who were placed on the same in consequence of disability occasioned by known wounds received during the revolutionary war, whether such person or persons served in the land or sea service of the forces of the United States, or of any particular state, in the regular corps, or the militia, or as volunteers: Provided, that in no case the pensions allowed to such person or persons, shall exceed the sums specified by the sixth section of an act, entitled “An act to provide for persons who were disabled by known wounds received in the revolutionary war,” passed the tenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and six: And provided, that in every case where application shall be made, to have such person or persons placed on the pension list of the United States, under this law, satisfactory documents from the proper officers of the state, shall be adduced to establish the fact of such person or persons having been placed on the state pension list in consequence of disability occasioned by known wounds received during the revolutionary war.

Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That any officer, non-commissioned officer, musician, or private, who has been wounded or disabled since the revolutionary war, while in the line of his duty, in the actual service of the United States, whether he belong to the military establishment or the militia, or any volunteer corps, called into service under the authority of the United States, may be placed on the pension list of the United States, at such rate of compensation, and under such regulations as are prescribed by the act, entitled “An act to provide for persons who were disabled by known wounds received in the revolutionary war,” passed April the tenth, one thousand eight hundred and six.

Sec. 5. And be it further enacted, That the pensioners becoming such in virtue of this act, shall be paid in the same manner as invalid pensioners are paid, who have heretofore been placed on the pension list of the United States, under such restrictions and regulations in all respects, as are prescribed by the laws of the United States, in such cases provided.

1. Benijah Abro, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the eleventh of October, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

2. Robert Craighead, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence
on the thirty-first of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

3. Solomon Van Ranssallaer, at the rate of thirty dollars per month, to commence on the thirteenth day of October, in eighteen hundred and twelve, and the sum of two thousand five hundred and eighty dollars, the amount of pension to him at the rate of twenty dollars per month, commencing on the thirtieth of January, one thousand eight hundred and
two, and ending on the thirteenth of October, one thousand eight hundred and twelve, in consequence of wounds received while serving as a captain of dragoons under General Wayne, in a battle with the Indians, on the twentieth of August, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-four.

4. Thomas Bailey, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the ninth December, one thousand eight hundred arid seventeen.

5. Benjamin Pincin, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the seventeenth of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

6. Caleb J. Whaley, at the rate of six dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the thirtieth of December, one thousand eight hundred and thirteen.

7. William Earnest, whose father died of wounds received in battle during the late war, to be applied, under the direction of the Secretary for the Department of War, in the education of the said William, at the Connecticut asylum for the education and instruction of deaf and dumb persons, for a period not exceeding five years, at the rate of two hundred and fifty dollars per annum.
Added info. 1818, a petition of Sarah Daggett, the mother and natural guardian of William Earnest, stating that the said William Earnest is a deaf and dumb boy, about 8 years old, and that his father Charles Earnest was killed in the battle of Bladensburg, and praying that provision may be made for the education and maintenance of the said William.


8. John Low, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the twentieth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

9. Jeremiah Burnham, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the twentieth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

10. John Sargent, of Vermont, at the rate of four dollars per month, to commence on the sixth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

11. Peter Francisco, of Virginia, at the rate of eight dollars a month, to commence on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and nineteen.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the pensions of the following named persons, already placed on the pension list of the United States, be increased to the sums herein respectively annexed to their names; the said increase to commence at the time hereinafter mentioned, and be in lieu of pensions they at present receive; that is to say:

12. Benjamin Merrill, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-eighth of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

13. Timothy Mix, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the eighteenth of April, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.
Added info. 1791, the Secretary for the Department of War be, and he hereby is, required to place on the invalid list Timothy Mix, disabled in the late war, by the loss of his right hand, while in the service of the United States, at the rate of the half pay of a lieutenant of artillery; to commence on the fourth day of November, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-three: Provided, That the said Timothy Mix shall first return the amount of the commutation of the half pay for life which he has received.

14. William Lackin, at the rate of six dollars per month, to commence on the eighteenth of February, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

15. John Wright, at the rate of six dollars per month, to commence on the fourth of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

16. Samuel Key Kendall, at the rate of twenty dollars per month, to commence on the tenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

17. James Campbell, at the rate of six dollars per month, to commence on the thirtieth of September, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

18. Philip Krugh, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the fifth of June, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

19. George Pierson, at the rate of eight dollars per mouth, to commence on the tenth of September, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

20. John Long, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the twenty-eighth of February, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.


21. Thomas M’Barney, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the twelfth of September, mm thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

22. William Simpson, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the fifth of September, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

23. James C. Wingard, at the rate of eight dollars per month, to commence on the thirtieth of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixteen.

24. William Arnold, at the rate of seven dollars and fifty cents per month, to commence on the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

25. Joseph S. Van Driesen, at the rate of twenty dollars per month, to commence on the tenth of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.
Added info. 1842, A petition of thomas Palmer, guardian to Mary Margaret Van Driesen, orphan child of Joseph S. Van Driesen, deceased, a soldier in the late war with Great Britain, praying a pension.

26. John Tilton, at the rate of thirteen dollars per month, to commence on the thirteenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

27. Joseph Westcott, at the rate of twenty dollars per month, to commence on the twentieth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.
Added info. 1817, A petition of Joseph Coffin Boyd, late a paymaster in the army of the United States; stating that he paid a sum of money to a certain Joseph Westcott, a captain of volunteers in actual service, to be by him paid to the said company, which sum of money was accidentally lost by the said Westcott, and praying to be exonerated from his liability to the United States for the same. He was from Otsego county, in the State of New York.
