The United States Rifle Regiment Of The War Of 1812

This page is about the men of the United States Rifle regiment at the time of the War of 1812. I could have named the men right off the register, however it didn’t always give a full name. I have gone through the records so you could have their full name and state when given, this information wouldn’t have been possible if there names were taken off the register.

This page will be a look up page, All those named below will have some kind of information, mostly military but some may have some family information. If you see a ancestor or a name you would like more info on, you will find my address in my profile. I will be looking forward to hearing from one and all.

Note. This information comes from the many departments of The Library of Congress.

My g,g,g,grandfather, Edmund Maness, was in the US rifles during the war of 1812 under the command of Captain Jno G. Blount, 3d Rifle, Major. He enliste as a private on 12th Aug. 1814. He was ultimately confined to general court martial for desertion. I would be extremely appreciative of any information you might be able to tell me regarding this rifle regiment, (its history, battles, etc.) Maybe you can post it on your blog. The site will not allow me to post an email address. Thanks.

What a great site! I appreciate all your work and your posting it on line. It's a great contribution.

I have a question I hope you can help with. My ancestor, John Hervey Myers, was said by his son to have served in the War of 1812. There are lots of John Myers in the records!

The only service record I found on Ancestry.com for a John H. Myers is:
John H Myers
Company: 1 REG'T (BIDDLE'S) PENNSYLVANIA VOLS.
Rank - Induction: PRIVATE
Rank - Discharge: PRIVATE
Roll Box: 151
Roll Exct: 602

My John was born in PA and moved to Nicholas, KY. He then moved to Pike County, MO, where he purchased several tracts of government land. Do you know if there's a way to find out whether he used a war bounty warrant to purchase the land? That would help me narrow down the many John Myers in the application records and maybe figure out which one is him.

I'll check back here to see whether you have answered.

Thanks a lot!

I went to the site of U S Bureau of land management: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx and found many John Myers from Pike county. But not knowning the year I had no idea if I had the right one. "DO NOT" use the (H.)of his middle name this will only call up a John Henry Myers and of couse this is not the one your looking for.

If you don't find him here go to the County set of Pike county and go to the registry of deeds, they should be on line, but there may be a small fee, for the search.
Good luck.
