Dismissions From The Navy.

The navy didn’t start recording their duty stations on their registries till 1818, so I have no duty records before 1818.

Born South Carolina, commission Midshipman on June 18, 1812, pay was $19, dollars per month with 2 rations per day. Commission Lieutenant on April 1, 1818, pay was $40, dollars per month with 3 rations per day, was station to the Brig Boxer. In 1819 and 1820, station to the Hornet. In 1821, station to the Schooner Nonesuch. In 1822, was station to Norfolk. In 1823, Station to the West India station. In 1824 and 1825, station to the Spark west India station. In 1826, waiting orders. On June 22, 1827 was Dismissed.

2. John Q. Adams. Boyd, Midshipman.

Born Indiana, commission Midshipman December 13, 1819, but didn’t show on the registry till 1821, was station to the Columbus 74, ( 74 guns ), pay was $19, dollars per month with 2 rations per day. In 1822 through 1824, station to the Franklin 74, ( 74 guns ). In 1825 was station to the Frigate United States in the Pacific Ocean. In 1826, he was not on the registry. On November 5, 1827, was Dismissed.
Note. One registry had him born in the District of Columbia?

Born North Carolina, appointed Midshipman, 28 June, 1804. Lieutenant, 28 April, 1810. Master Commandant, 27 April, 1816. In 1818 was station to New York. From 1819 through 1823 was at Norfolk. In 1824 and 1825, was station to the Sloop Peacock in the Pacific Ocean. In 1826 and 1827, was not on duty. On December 7, 1827 he was cashiered.

2. William Foster, Midshipman, Lieutenant.

Born New York, Midshipman, 1 February, 1814. In 1818, was station to the Corvette John Adams. In 1819 through 1822, was station to the Frigate Congress. In 1823 and 1824, was station to Philadelphia. In 1825, was station to the West India squadron. In 1825 was given a promotion for Lieutenant, station to the Shark. In 1826 was still on the Shark? In 1827, was station to the Sloop Hornet. On December 28, 1827, was Cashiered.
Note. Some registries have him born in New Jersey and promoted to Lieutenant January 1, 1817?

Born New York, appointed Midshipman, 28 January, 1815. In 1818 was on furlough. In 1819 and 1820 station to the Frigate Macedonian. In 1821 through 1824 station to the Washington 74, ( 74 guns ). In 1825 and 1826, was on leave of absence. In 1827 was on furlough. In 1828, was station to Norfolk. On May 1, 1828 was Dismissed.

4. William S. J. Washington, Midshipman.

Born Virginia, Midshipman, 5 February, 1812. In 1818 and 1819, was station to Like Erie. In 1820 station to New York. In 1821 station to the navy yard Washington. In 1822, was station to the Schooner Grampus. In 1823 station to Norfolk. In 1824 and 1825, station to the West India station. In 1826, station to the receiving ship Alert. In 1827 and 1828, station to the receiving ship Norfolk. On May 1, 1828, was Dismissed.
Note. Some registries have him born and living in the District of Columbia?

5. Humphrey A. N. Morris, Midshipman.

Born New York, Midshipman, 1 January, 1817. In 1818 and 1819, was not on duty. In 1820, was station to New Orleans. In 1821 was not found on the registry. In 1822, was station to the Frigate Macedonian. In 1823 and 1824, station to New York. In 1825, was on furlough. In 1826 and 1827 station to the Cyane. On December 22, 1827, he was Cashiered.
Note. Some registries have him born in England, and living in New York?

6. William A. Randolph, Second Lieutenant of Marines.

Born South Carolina, Second Lieutenant, 30 July, 1823. In 1824, was station to the West India station. In 1825, was at Headquarters. In 1826, was station to the Brandywine. On October 21, 1826, he was dismissed.

In 1827, was station to the Sloop Hornet. In 1828, was station to New York. In 1829, was on furlough. On November 5, 1829, he was dismissed. Died 12 July, 1853.
Note. Some registries state he was commissioned surgeon on May 26, 1824.

2. William Belt, Assistant surgeon.

Born Maryland, Surgeon's Mate, 23 September, 1811. In 1818 1819, was on furlough. In 1820, was station to Norfolk Virginia. In 1821, was station to Baltimore. No record for 1822, in 1823, was station to the West India. In 1824 through 1827, was station to the Sloop Peacock, Pacific Ocean. In 1828 and 1829, was station to the navy yard Washington. On April 7, 1829 he was dismissed.

3. Thomas V. Wiesenthal, Assistant surgeon.

Born Maryland, Assistant surgeon, December 10, 1814. In 1818, was station to the Independence 74 ( 74 guns ). In 1819 and 1821, was at Charlestown Massachusetts. No record for 1822. In 1823, station to West India. In 1824, station to Baltimore. In 1825, station to Sloop Hornet West India station. In 1826, station to Baltimore. In 1827 through 1829, station to the navy Hospital, Gosport. On April 7, 1829, he was dismissed.

4. James R .Boyce, Assistant surgeon.

Born Virginia, Surgeon's Mate, 22 April, 1816. In 1818, was station to Gosport Virginia. In 1819 and 1821 was station to the Frigate Macedonian. There is no record for 1822. In 1823 was station to the Hospital at Norfolk, Virginia. In 1824, was station to the Brig Spark, West India. In 1825, was on leave of absence. In 1826 was station to the Navy Hospital at Gosport Virginia. In 1827, was station to the Sloop Vincennes. In 1828, was station to the John Adams. In 1829, was waiting for orders. On April 7, 1829, he was dismissed.

5. Lewis Deblois, PURSER.

Born Massachusetts, Purser, 25 February, 1812. In 1818 and 1820, was station to Charlestown Massachusetts. In 1821, was at the navy yard at Charlestown. In 1822 through 1825, was on furlough in Boston. In 1827 through 1829, was not on duty. On May 27, 1829, he was dismissed.

6. Edward McLaughlin, CHAPLAIN.

Born New York, Chaplain, 19 April, 1826. In 1827, was station to Norfolk Virginia. In 1828 and 1829, was station to the navy yard Gosport Virginia. On October 2, 1829, he was dismissed.

7. Abram or Abraham J. Bennett, Midshipman.

9. Patrick F. Bradlee, Midshipman.

Born Massachusetts, Appointed Midshipman September 1, 1822, from 1822 to 1824 he is not on the registries. In 1825 and 1827, was station to the Frigate United States Pacific Ocean. In 1828, was station to the receiving ship Boston. In 1829, was under examination. On April 4, 1829, he was dismissed.

10. Charles D. Drake, Midshipman.

Born Ohio, Midshipman, 1 April, 1827. In 1828, was station to the Delaware 74 ( 74 guns ). In 1829, was station to the Sloop Hornet. On October 30, 1829, he was dismissed.

11. William P. Livingston, Midshipman.

Born New York, Midshipman, 1 March, 1825. In 1827 and 1828,was station to the Frigate Macedonian. In 1829, was on leave of absence. On July 8, 1829, was dismissed.

13. Robert H. L. Paterson, Midshipman.

Born New York, Midshipman, 1 October, 1827. In 1828, was waiting for orders. In 1829, was station to the Sloop Fairfield. On April 4, 1829, he was dismissed. The registry states he was on furlough in 1830 and 1831. Resigned 12 April, 1831.
Note Some records state he Resigned on 12 April, 1831.

14. Lloyd L. Spillman, Midshipman.

Born Virginia, Midshipman, 19 August, 1823. In 1824 through 1827 was station to the Sloop Peacock, Pacific Ocean. 1828, was on leave of absence. In 1829, was station to the Sloop Fairfield. On June 3, 1829, he was dismissed, but Resigned September 3, 1829.

15. H. H. Van Rensselaer, Midshipman.

Born New York, Appointed Midshipman, 10 May, 1820. In 1821, not on duty. In 1822 through 1825, station to the Schooner Dolphin. In 1826, station to the Pacific. In 1827 and 1828. on leave of absence. In 1829, was under examination. On April 6, 1829, he was dismissed.

16. Zaccheus R. Fuller, CARPENTER.

In 1828 through 1830 was station to the Delaware 74. ( 74 guns ). On March 31, 1830, he was dismissed. Commander, 8 September, 1841. Died 17 October, 1850.

3. Hampton Westcott, Midshipman, LIEUTENANT.

Born New Jersey, Midshipman, 10 May, 1820. In 1821 and 1822, was station to the Brig Enterprise. In 1823, was station to Philadelphia. In 1824 through 1826, was station to the Sloop Erie, Mediterranean. In 1827, was on leave of absence. In 1828 and 1829, was waiting for orders. The records state he made Lieutenant in May of 1826, but wasn’t shown on the registry till 1828. Lieutenant, 17 May, 1826. Dismissed 31 March, 1830.

4. Charles Ellery, Midshipman, LIEUTENANT.

Born Rhode Island, Midshipman, 8 March, 1814. In 1818, was station to the Frigate Constellation. In 1819 and 1822, was station to the Frigate Guerriere. From 1823 and 1824, he is not shown on the registry. Lieutenant, 13 January, 1825. In 1825 and 1826, was on leave of absence. In 1827, was station to the Sloop Boston. In 1828, he was waiting for orders. In 1829 and 1830, was station to the Schooner Shark. He was dismissed on 24 November, 1830.

5. William P. Zantzinger, PURSER.

Born Pennsylvania, Purser, 24 July, 1813. This record states he was appointed Purser in 1813, but the navy registry states August 2, 1824. In 1825 through 1827, was station to the Brig Spark, West India station. In 1828, was on leave of absence. In 1829, he was waiting for orders. In 1830, he was under arrest, he was Cashiered on 31 May, 1830.

6. Charles H. Duryee, Midshipman, PASSED MIDSHIPMEN, Lieutenant.

Born New York, Midshipman, 19 August, 1823. In 1824 through 1827, was station to the Sloop Erie in the Mediterranean. In 1828, was station to the Sloop Ontario. Passed Midshipman, 23 March, 1829. In 1829, was under examination. On March 31, 1830, he was dismissed, this was his first dismissal. Lieutenant, 31 December, 1833. Dismissed 30 October, 1837.

7. Alexander Gibson, Midshipman, PASSED MIDSHIPMEN.

In 1828, was station to the Schooner Dolphin, then again in 1828, was station to the Schooner Grampus. On April 14, 1830, he was dismissed. Lieutenant, 28 February, 1838. Reserved List, 13 September, 1855. Commissioned Commander on Active List, 14 September, 1855. Captain on Retired List, 4 April, 1867. Died 8 August, 1872.

8. Benjamin S. Slye, MIDSHIPMAN.

Born District of Columbia, Midshipman, 1 March, 1825. In 1825, was station to the West India. In 1826, was on leave of absence. In 1827, was station to rhe Sloop Lexington. In 1828, was at naval school, New York. In 1829, was station to the Delaware 74 ( 74guns ). In 1830, was station to the Frigate Java. On March 13, 1830, he was dismissed for the first time, dismissed for a second time on 9 July, 1833.

9. Charles G. Hunter, MIDSHIPMAN.

Born New Jersey, Midshipman, 16 November, 1824. In 1825 through 1827, was station to the North Carolina 74 ( 74 guns ), in the Mediterranean. In 1828, was srarion to the Schooner Porpoise.
