Texas Bad Men.

Have you ever been looking for one thing and found something more interesting then what you were looking for? This is how this page came about. All these men were indieted then made their escape. Now from what I can tell these were your every day criminals although there may be some famous ones listed. All the information I have on them is here.

There are thousands of names so I will only list a few. If you know your anceston was mixed up with the Texas law, and was not on the list you can request a look up by writing me at the following.

1. John Hampton, assault with intent to murder ( 4 indietments ), committed January 14, 1878; indieted July 12, 1878, about 6 feet high, 25 to 30 years old with Reddish or Sandy hair.

2. Reuben Goins, theft; indieted January 1877; 32 years old, dark hair and eyes, dark sandy beard, 5 feet 8 inches high, part Indian.

3. Henry Shafer, theft of timber, value $20, committed October 5, 1875, indieted October 13, 1875.  Dark complexion, dark hair and black eyes,  About 37 years old and about 5 feet 9 inches high, is a German.

4. Joseph Hobbs, two charges of theft of a horse, two cases; indieted April 1873; boy 18 or 20, light complextion, blue eyes, 5 feet 4 inches, lives in Wilson County.

5. Nicholas Harvick, alias "Dock", murder; committed 1870; indieted 1870; is 5 feet 10 or 11 inches, spare made 150 pounds, swarthy complextion, gray eyes, 40 years old, getting gray, upper lip sharp, one front tooth projects like a tusk; supposed to be in San Saba County.  Went into a church house in this county, shot and killed an old man and his son, about 5 years old, on Sunday morning.

6. Allen Kalb, theft of a cow; white 6 feet high, 50 years old, weighs 150 pounds, spare built, black eyes, 2 cases.

7. Charles Stockman, theft of a cow; white, red hair, 25 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, heavy set.

8. Calvin Shoermaker, theft of cows; white; 2 cases; 45 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weigh 180 pounds, dark complextion.

9. Rolan Person, theft of hogs; committed January 19, 1873; indieted January 10, 1874; is black, 5 feet 9 inches in hight, weighs 180 pounds, 35 years old, pigeon-toed, almost identiecal in appearance with Henry Elmore.

10. Sim Tucker, murder; committed May 10, 1873; indieted January 10, 1874; Mulatto, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 175 pounds, 45 years old.  Convicted and escaped from jail.

11. James M. Sullivan, Murder; committed May 10, 1865; indieted May 27, 1865, 5 feet 6 inches high; weigh 140 pounds, 33 years old, red complextion, red hair and beard, supposed to live in San Augustine or Nacogdoches county.

12. Joseph McKean, Muder; committed February 24, 1869; indieted April 30, 1869; is 5 feet 7 inches high, weighs 120 pounds, about 40 years old, blue eyes, light hair, face badly powder-burnt, was confined in Lunatie Asylum, white.

13. Charles Haywood, Swindling; indieted January 1872; 5 feet 10 inches tall, bald headded, light brown hair, light complextion, large prominent nose, gray eyes, 155 pounds, upper front tooth out, 45 years old, hails from Buffalo New York.

14. John Stein, Rape; committed August 5, 1872; indieted October 8, 1872, 35 years old, slender build, German, moustache and beard.

15. John Magoffin, theft of mare; committed September 1, 1871; indieted February 6, 1873; yellow negro, 27 years old, medium size.

16. Frank Raddatz, assault with intent to kill and murder; committed July 1, 1872; indieted November 15, 1872; is 5 feet 10 inches high, spare made; thinvisage German extraction, about 25 years old.

17. Ed. Roch, theft of cattle; committed August 23, 1877; indieted September 28, 1877; 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complextion, light hair, bule eyes.

18. James R. Raby, of Coryell county; charged with an attempt to kill and murder, and burglary and embezzlement.  He is an ex-sheriff of this county, and left here with a large amount of tax money.  He is about 50 years old, red face, gray hair, well educated and good address was indieted September 1876.

19. Webb Beck, theft of a gelding; indieted December 9, 1875; negro boy 17 or 18 years old, black under medium size supposed to be out west escaped from jail.

20. J. W. Brossell, thrent to take human life; indieted April 11, 1876; is a physieian, 5 feet 10 inches high, weigh 130 or 140 pounds, dark complextion, black hair and eyes, of gentlemanly appearance and address, about 30 years old, black moustache and beard.

21. Burrell Davis, Rape; indieted April 9, 1875; negor, medium size, 30 years old, quick spoken, large eyes, has been convicted and sentenced to be hanged, escaped from jail is very black.

22. Joe Cox, Burglary; indieted June 1877; white, medium size, fair complextion, 30 years old, face scarred and disfigured from burn or scald, eyes blue or gray.

23. Charles Henderson, Theft of cattle; committed April 1874; indieted May 1874; about 5 feet 9 inches high, light hair, one eye white, and had a scar on one cheek, looks like as if burnt, about 28 years old.

24. Dick Turner, Driving steer from range; committed July 1872; indieted May 1873; light hair and gray eyes ( cock-eyed ), about 26 years old, 5 feet 7 inches high, weighs 140 pounds.

25. James Gober, Rescuing Prisoner; committed May 1875; indieted January 1876; about 5 feet 7 inches tall, gray eyes and gray hair, between 60 and 65 years old, smokes incessantly, and weighs about 160 and 180 pounds.

26. Thomas Wright, Murder; committed October 1871; indieted January 1872; about 5 feet 10 inches, broad shoulders and heavy-set quick, restless gray eyes, red-sandy hair and coars, heavy whiskers and moustache, suppossed to be in Arkansas on White river ferrying.
