Just saw this today, my G-GrandDad Samuel E. Shurtz served in the OHIO 65th Co. F Infantry, and also fought the Battle of Chickamauga on Sept 20, 1863, captured and sent to Anderson Prison...., I really wonder if 'Sam' and Mr. Long knew each other. Now, I'm beginning to wonder if G-GrandDad Samuel, was on the Sultana with Mr. Long. and also survived that terrible explosion? Maybe a passenger list, on that day?

Samuel may have known Mr. long but Samuel wasn't on the Sultana which explosion was on April 27, 1865. Samuel was mustered out two months later, on June 15, 1865.
